François Mascarello

Stucco furniture. Straw marquetry paravents. Wool and hemp rugs. Oil on kraft wallpapers ... By confronting materials, objects and trends, François Mascarello's atypical universe extends to New York from his Parisian studio.

Here is a man who does not apply any censorship to inspiration. Materials, ideas, movements, even a shadow on a photograph. He works them in the mass and does not hesitate to make them collide to bring out harmonies. The fragmented individualities enter into resonance. Under his hand, a motif, a symbol or a monochrome come alive or repeated to release the richest variations.

One could believe in freshly painted paintings, which still carry the breath of the workshop. If the effect is so striking, it is because François Mascarello has seized all the techniques of printing to give substance to his patterns and materials, to embody them even in the relief of the brushstroke.

In this corpus, straw, oil paint or kraft manage to transcend their original materiality to offer precious and sculptural works. Weeks spent with the machines to bring out all the finesse of the colors and the richness of the material, only the palpable trace of the work and its spectacular presence remain. The paint-material effects that the swelling of the ink really gives, the unique shimmer of metallic silk, the brilliance of copper.

First, there were stucco furniture and marquetry screens. Then wool and hemp rugs. And hand-painted kraft wallpaper... By connecting materials,
objects and movements, Parisian artist François Mascarello appoints a world so astounding it spread all the way to New York in no time.

"Bringing out the essence of an unassuming or even poor material is a direct track to its luxury"

A free spirit of the decorative arts, the designer also finds his work buoyed by a great many historic revelations: the Outrenoir of Soulages,
the corpus of William Morris or the materialisation of time of Roman Opalka. His creations are acclaimed in boutiques and interiors
designed by the greatest architects, probably a direct consequence of their unparalleled ability to bring out the essence of anything raw,
or even of a poor material, and reveal the luxury within.

To do so in his realm of painting, sculpture and craftsmanship, François Mascarello conducts unfettered explorations based on restless
experimenting, cracking fabrication methods and swaying techniques. While his handpainted wallpapers - oil on kraft - have already won
the heart of many places, the artist welcomed a new challenge with Asteré. How do induce life in his work with the same pulse and
intensity using only printing techniques?
