Paleo

A glimpse of ‘native America’. The Paleo Indians, the oldest native inhabitants of North America, had a colourful lifestyle and fascinating culture. The drawings and colour palette in this collection take their inspiration from the way clothes, jewellery and utensils used by this nomadic tribe were decorated. Paleo means ‘the ancient’, yet these unusual motifs are more up to date than ever.

Latus
The plainest variant, a silk imitation that is in perfect harmony with the other references. Featuring the irregularities of natural silk, with a thicker or rougher thread from time to time, and the full, intense colours of real silk. We intentionally chose a silk imitation, printed on non-woven fabric, as this is colourfast and also far more durable.

Tribu
A combination of rustling imitation raffia and cotton, woven into a stunning motif. Tribu refers to the typical tribal patterns, familiar in Mexican fabrics. Rich and extrovert, without being excessive.

Copán
A combination of rustling imitation raffia and cotton, woven into a stunning motif. The Copán design reminds us of what is seen through a kaleidoscope: all kinds of wondrous, mandala-like patterns which can be changed by shaking the kaleidoscope.

Empire
The same ‘quillwork’ as Civilia, however, this time with a clear pattern. Made exactly in the same way as the Paleo Indians did it, with stylised figures carved in wood, stone or bone. Excavations have taught us that they were mad about coloured materials, such as coral, turquoise and jade, shades that you will also find in this collection.

Civilia
A unique design, based on ‘quillwork’, as virtually the oldest form of embroidery. Handiwork that was used exclusively by the native Americans to decorate clothes, jewellery and other utensils. Civilia is linear without being truly straight. Sometimes the linear effect creates the impression of rectangles lying across each other in layers.

Strata
Strata refers to the many sedimentary rock layers that reveal their past thanks to what you find in them. Pieces of broken pot, fossils, minerals and crystals. Strata suggests all kinds of layers of earth, sometimes damp and shiny, sometimes dull and dry. Together these form a supple, moving wavy pattern. There are so many shades in this semi plain, which create movement and depth.
